Leila Cobo, executive editor for Latin content and programming for Billboard magazine, was a featured Recording Industry guest March 24 with a question-and-answer session led by RI Chair Beverly Keel.
The session explored Cobo’s role as one of the country’s leading experts in Latin music.
Cobo reflected on her music journalism career, noting that during her tenure at Billboard, coverage by the Latin music division has greatly expanded, both in print and digitally. She also described her role in programming the annual Billboard Latin Music Conference, the largest gathering of the Latin music industry in the United States. She offered encouragement to students pursuing journalism in the music field.
Cobo was brought to campus as part of the College of Mass Communication’s Brian Williams SunTrust Lecture Series. The annual series draws professionals from across the communication industry and is named for the late charter member of the College’s Board of Visitors, who was known as Music Row’s respected “banker to the stars.”
