A photograph by Professor Chris Harris in the Department of Electronic Media Communication is included in an exhibit that opened in Moscow in June. More than 130 photographers submitted 2,711 images for review, and images from only 50 photographers were selected.
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow is sponsoring the show to highlight America’s diversity for Russian audiences. The idea is to share the diverse talent of photographers who have captured New Orleans and southeast Louisiana culture. The black-and-white photograph taken by Harris depicts a group of hunters gathered together to skin the hides after an alligator hunt in Slidell, Louisiana.
The exhibit is on display at The Multimedia Museum, the leading institution exhibiting photography in Moscow. Recent exhibitions have included the work of Elliot Erwitt, Sebastiano Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Martin Parr, Alec Soth, Steve McCurry, August Sander, Berenice Abbott and Garry Winogrand.
Harris has had his work exhibited in 30 solo or group shows worldwide. After the Moscow show, Harris’ photo will become part of the permanent collection of the United States Embassy in Moscow.
