“We are thrilled that the national recognition continues for the Department of Recording Industry, which was recently named by Billboard as one of its Top 5 schools to study music internationally,” said Beverly Keel, department chair.

Billboard logoBillboard magazine’s September article, “Music Business 101: Schools Where You Can Learn About the Industry,” included 11 music business schools in North America. MTSU was listed among Boston’s Berklee School of Music and Toronto’s Harris Institute.

The Department of Recording Industry’s scroll of well-known graduates and attendees, such as Lady Antebellum’s Hilary Scott and Sony Nashville CEO Gary Overton, continues to grow. Over a dozen of MTSU alumni, former students and RI faculty have been nominated and/or won GRAMMY Awards in the past decade in categories from classical to gospel to bluegrass.
