Every department in the College of Mass Communication was on hand to welcome 44 potential students and their parents to the MTSU recruiting event True Blue Experience Day on Jan. 30.
The MTSU recruitment celebration kicked off in the Student Union, where more than 100 students, parents and friends gathered in the theater, welcomed by College of Mass Communication Dean Ken Paulson and college department heads Beverly Keel (Recording Industry chair), Billy Pittard (Electronic Media Communication chair) and Dwight Brooks (School of Journalism director).
Paulson described the College of Mass Communication as the only one in the world that combines the fields of recording industry, electronic media communication and journalism under one roof. He told the recruits to get ready for an experience that will “incorporate an interactive media showcase into our program, offering students the chance for hands-on experiences with video and photography, music production and a range of digital media.”
Advisers from the Mass Communication Student Success Center divided the guests into groups and led them through four interactive experiences, each showcasing a different aspect of the college. Each group spent 20 minutes learning from the professors manning one of these four stations:
- Station 1: Recording and Mixing Experience
- Station 2: Live TV/Truck Production Experience
- Station 3: TV News/Green Screen Experience
- Station 4: Photography Experience
The four groups concluded the tour in the Bragg Mass Communication Building, where faculty and advisers fielded questions and encouraged the potential recruits to pursue a career in the college.
True Blue Experience Days offer potential students, their parents and families an opportunity for an in-depth campus visit. They are able to view campus facilities; meet deans, advisers, faculty and other academic staff; talk to admissions and financial aid personnel; and gain a sense of student life and the MTSU community.
The college’s 2015 Spring Preview Days are scheduled for Saturday, March 21, and Saturday, June 6.
