Sidelines’ Forrest Hall coverage prompts praise

Sidelines_March-2.inddStudent-run newspaper Sidelines has been receiving accolades from local news sources regarding its coverage of the Forrest Hall protests on MTSU’s campus.

Amanda Haggard of the Nashville Scene said, “Student reporters have done one hell of a job covering the controversy around Forrest Hall,” while the Tennessee Associated Press Broadcast and Media Editors awarded Sidelines journalist Sarah Taylor Best Online Ongoing Coverage for her articles on the subject.

MTSU students have requested a rechristening of the campus building Forrest Hall, named after Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

In March, Sidelines published a special issue called “De-forestation” highlighting the paper’s coverage and featuring a timeline of events.

Recently, MTSU President Sidney McPhee said that he will recommend the renaming of Forrest Hall to the Tennessee Board of Regents.
