Haines’ Animal Abecedary shown in Queensland exhibit

Two pieces — C is for Cat, S is for Slug — were accepted into the international juried Inkmasters Print Exhibition that took place in Cairns, Queensland, July 29 through Aug. 21. The exhibit received over 300 entries and accepted 100 pieces for the show.

Inkmasters Cairns is a not-for-profit organization that promotes printmaking as an art form, highlighting artist excellence and innovation in print media.

Using magazine images, photography, drawings and engravings, Haines pieces together her designs in Photoshop and prints the final product on bamboo paper using archival inks. Each piece of 16 x 20 before framing.

“I’m excited that my work is being seen on another continent,” Haines says.

Haines is an associate professor of Visual Communication in the School of Journalism. The “Animal Abecedary” series was made possible by a grant funded by the Faculty Research and Creative Activity Committee (FRCAC).
