The College of Media and Entertainment’s WMOT-FM/Roots Radio and Center for Popular Music Director Greg Reish participated last month in a concert to help Gatlinburg, Tennessee, recover from November’s devastating wildfires.
The wildfires killed 14 people and injured hundreds. Local businesses and homes sustained heavy damage in the fires’ wake.
“Mountain Tough,” the free, all-day concert on Dec.17, brought awareness to the tragedy through the music of some prominent artists. The show was broadcast and streamed live by WMOT 89.5 FM, which serves Middle Tennessee from the College’s Center for Innovation in Media.
The show, held at 705 Parkway in Gatlinburg, was headlined by the Zac Brown Band and featured performances by Reish, The Secret Sisters, Sam Bush, Jason D. Williams, Derek St. Holmes, Jim Lauderdale, Chuck Mead, Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley, Shannon Whitworth & Barrett Smith, Sarah Potenza, Firewater Junction, Chelle Rose, Carl Anderson, R.B. Morris and Mo Pitney. The show was produced by Yee-Haw Brewing Co., Ole Smoky Moonshine, Music City Roots and the Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The proceeds were given to the Sevier County Community Fund.
