The Department of Recording Industry hosted 50 members of the Leadership Music Class of 2018 on Oct. 20 in the Bragg Media and Entertainment Building.
The class assembled in Bragg 104 for an introduction by Recording Industry Chair Beverly Keel, followed by a Music Business overview by Linda Bloss-Baum, a Leadership Music 2009 alumna and senior director for industry relations at SoundExchange.
The class toured the Center for Innovation in Media/WMOT Roots Radio and the Center for Popular Music before assembling in the large TV studio for an interview with Keel and artist manager Bill Carter. Keel then welcomed surprise guest Reba McEntire, who talked about her career and working with Carter.
Recording Industry students provided the sound for the lecture in Bragg 104 while Media Arts students taped the interview session in the studio. The event was organi————zed by music business Associate Professor Melissa Wald.
Founded in 1989 by music industry executives, Leadership Music has 1,100 alumni in all areas of the music industry. In addition to the eight-month program, Leadership Music engages its alums throughout the year with ongoing educational sessions, social mixers, the Dale Franklin Awards and volunteering within the community.
