Student journalists from Middle Tennessee State University won nine awards in the Best of the South competition at the Southeast Journalism Conference on Feb. 19, including four first-place finishes in several of the most competitive categories.

Students and faculty from MTSU’s College of Media and Entertainment contributed in a number of ways to the success of the 16th annual Americana Music Festival and Conference in Nashville.

MTSU students brought home 12 certificates from the Southeast Journalism Conference awards held in Atlanta, Feb. 26 through 28.

It has been a very busy and productive fall semester for the Music City Project, an offshoot of the Seigenthaler News Service from the John Seigenthaler Chair of Excellence in First Amendment Studies.

For the second year in a row, a group of journalism students took to the road in Associate Professor Leon Alligood’s summer feature writing class.
